The news for patients and their families dealing with painful, life-threatening open wounds from diabetes is encouraging and long overdue.
A few months ago, Donald Trump weighed in via Truth Social to challenge a Biden Administration effort to limit life-saving choices and coverage for Americans with diabetes. He said, in part, “Joe Biden is saying Medicare will not cover Americans living with horrible open wounds caused by diabetes..playing Russian Roulette with people’s lives”. Trump concluded, “these people are hurting, but should know help is on the way."
That’s why we are extremely heartened by yesterday’s White House Executive Order declaring there will be a freeze on new regulations, "for questions of fact, law and policy to reconsidered by this Administration."
Clearly that includes an ill-advised LCD proposed by the previous Administration they wanted to impose on the Trump Administration.
Fortunately, there is a better way, a path forward that ensures we take the right and best course for these patients and their families.
Thank you, Mr. President.

THIS IS OUR
WHY
1
ONE
A proposed change in Medicare coverage would severely impact life-saving care for more than 600,000 patients many of whom have diabetes and suffer from painful wounds that won’t heal.
2
TWO
With no other available treatment options, these same patients would experience higher incidences of infection, limb amputations, and death.
3
THREE
Patients don’t have a clue any of this is going on.
4
FOUR
Per the CDC, 38 million Americans today have diabetes – 1.2-million new cases are reported every year.

5
FIVE
Diabetes disproportionally affects seniors, veterans, and 27 million minority patients (African-American, Hispanics, native American, Asian American).
6
SIX
The proposed Medicare policy, opposed by health care providers and unsubstantiated by medical science, puts government bureaucrats and insurance companies in charge of patient treatment and outcomes.
7
SEVEN
Breakthrough wound healing treatments are already available to help patients fighting for their lives.
8
EIGHT
If this radical proposal is not stopped, the word “care” will be stripped right out of Medicare.
